Forth on Fourth Ave (FOFA) has a 10-year history of successfully lobbying for 4th Avenue improvements (between Atlantic Avenue and the Prospect Expressway) including tree planting, tree bed maintenance (with tree guards), and public art installations. We started as a committee of the Park Slope Civic Council in 2010, and since 2020, have become increasingly involved in the Gowanus Rezoning Plan, which borders 4th Ave. Our current focus is on the 4th Avenue corridor and neighboring side streets, advocating for safer, greener and more resilient streetscape for all to enjoy.

Forth on Fourth Ave (FOFA) Actions

Cleaning & Greening FOFA advocated for the city to plant over 100 trees (with tree guards) on 4th Ave. A few times a year, we wourk with residents and businesses to clean, green and plant the tree beds.

Community Advocacy FOFA has held major community stakeholder meetings to inform elected politicians and city agencies of residents' concerns. We have held actions to gain attention for needed improvements at the 4th Ave/9th St Subway station and Times Plaza (where 4th Flatbush and Atlantic Aves intersect).

Safer Streets

FOFA, working with others, was a major advocate for the 4th Ave Safety Plan which included bike lanes and medians. We continue to fight for planted green medians as part of the promised improvements.

Pacific St Library

FOFA was a key player in the fight to save the Pacific Street Library from demolition. Today there are plans for major improvements, following a Community Visioning Process.
